About the Event

MJI PRESENTS: PAUL CORNISH - NO PRESSURE TOUR

Milwaukee Jazz Institute proudly presents Los Angeles-based pianist and composer Paul Cornish. At his one-night-only stop in Milwaukee, his trio will be joined by special guest Lenard Simpson.

Paul Cornish is a pianist and composer from Houston, Texas, currently residing in Los Angeles, California. He has garnered accolades throughout his career, including being one of three finalists in the 2023 Herbie Hancock International Jazz Piano Competition and a finalist in the American Pianists Association's Jazz Competition. Cornish can be seen performing around the globe with notable acts such as Joshua Redman, KNOWER, and many more.

Lenard Simpson is a saxophonist, composer, and educator from Milwaukee. He received a B.M. in jazz performance from Northern Illinois University. In 2018, Lenard was selected by a panel of Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, James Newton, and Ambrose Akinmusire to be a member of the Thelonious Monk Institute Fellowship, which has since been renamed the Herbie Hancock Institute. After finishing his master’s degree at the Institute, Lenard moved to Chicago, where he remains an active performer and educator, playing with artists such as Marquis Hill and Kurt Elling.

Emma Dayhuff has followed her musical passions to places beyond what she imagined from her childhood home on Sourdough Canyon Road in Bozeman, Montana. She is a graduate of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Performance in Los Angeles and has had the opportunity to tour and share the stage internationally with Herbie Hancock, Cecile McLorin Salvant, David Murray, Kahil El’Zabar, among many others.

Jonathan Pinson, hailing from Los Angeles, California, is one of the most in-demand drummers in Jazz today. He can be heard all over the world with legendary saxophonist Mark Turner's Quartet, as well as a bandleader with his own genre-progressive group, Boom Clap. Together, this trio presents a unique sound built on their wealth of collective experience and years of friendship to present a compassionate yet daring sound experience that aspires to inspire their audience.
